What is the one thing you wish people knew about the foster care system from your perspective?

One of the things that I wish more people knew about the foster care system is that there is so much talent that is being lost by an archaic system that is failing our children. The reality of youth aging out of care is horrendous - homelessness, jail, and a life of crime; we must do better.

What was the key takeaway from your experience of Foster Youth Shadow Day last year?

My key take away from Shadow Day is that it inspired and energized me to become more active within my district and in my state in matters relating to policies and legislative initiatives and agendas. I became more active in the political process,and it helped me to empower others to make a change in the system as well as the camaraderie and the stories of inspiration.
