What is the one thing you wish people knew about the foster care system from your perspective?
I wish people would remember that these are kids in the system, not another case that appears before a judge nor another case file that passes through the desk of social workers. These children need our love and attention. They may seem like troublemakers, but they have witnessed horrors that most adults could never imagine. Foster kids are kids like any other. They are not another check that a foster parent may receive. They are children. They are just like your children. Children who miss their parents and siblings and the rest of their family. If we stop looking at them like they are a statistic, then maybe we can realize that these children are our future. How we treat them and nurture them is something completely different. They are our legacy.
